What is wrong with me?

Why would I sit down and watch a marathon of 60 Days In? A documentary about 7 people different backgrounds, put into Clark County in Indiana, to get info on where the problems are, to report back to the Sherrif in charge. After one episode I had to keep watching. It opened my eyes to a lot of things, that I know Michael has not shared with me about where he is. Of course now I have to finish watching because I want to know the outcome. It's insane to me they treat the prisoners like animals, with no structure and they wonder why things are so poor in the facility. They have too much idol time to get into trouble. My son has waited four months now for some kind of recovery classes. At least he is reading lots and going to church and bible studies. I cried and I prayed while watching that my son has been protected thus far. Just makes we wonder what his days are really like.

  • Yes Mary I agree. It should be the same across the board. I saw Michael today, and he is just so frustrated waiting to start programs until he gets to his "home" prison. So he has wasted 5 months. And if the program's don't get done when his minimum time up, he will be forced to stay even longer. So frustrating.
  • I think the biggest thing I learned is the arrogance of some CO's, and the lack of stability in these facilities. Regardless of what circumstances brought our kids to where they are, they are still humans. I would run the facility like a boot camp. Give them daily routines/requirements. We all know what happens when kids have too much idol time. I feel the people I have come in contact with all hate their jobs. They chose this line of work. Whether you like or dislike the inmates, it's your job. And I am sure the job description, does not say be miserable and treat them poorly. Treatment programs need to be started immediately when inmates arrive. Not oh you have to wait til you get to home jail. It's wasting precious time. Do they not see what positive reinforcement can create. I guess I am just dreaming. But I will continue to fight for change.
  • HI Lisa,  I haven't watched that one.  Greg is happy with the recovery program he in.  The structure of his program is helping.  I hope he gets in one soon.  If you need some letter support please send me the address in a message and i will be happy to send some encouragement to Micheal.
