My son is currently being held in Gregg county jail in Longview, TXThis is a very sketchy place for just a normal common cold , but if you have an infection in your arm ( osteomyelitis ) it's frightening ! My son has gone to an outside doctor and he did come to the conclusion that for his sake an amputation would be the best course of action.Well here is the problem.......my son is a federal inmate and no one seems to want to make a decision on his healthcare! I have enlisted the help of our local Congressman's office, hoping that this will get some kind of action.I find myself becoming very distrustful to those in charge of my son. It appears more so every day that he is just another notch on their belts in the "war on drugs"
Thank you to everyone who has commented! This is the current status... I called and emailed the jail today for copies of his medical records. The response was that because he is under federal hold that I have to get all info from the Marshall's office. This is the same kind of run around that I have been getting for the past few months! I have a contact at our local Congressman's office that will do an inquiry with the Marshall's office but I really need the current records as he is seeing the PA in the morning. His doctor has stated as long as he does NOT have an open wound that this could be put off for 12 months. Well now we have an open draining wound and I can't get records of treatment! Yes, I have talked to the texas jail project and they have been very encouraging , sited some records of medical release that I can use. This is so aggravating ! It seems the only way you can get someone's attention is to be a hateful person!

Is your son on antibiotics now? Does the jail have a dx and his doctor's summary of his condition? If not, I would get his Dr. involved immediately as this is very serious. I would get anyone on the outside involved immediately but in the meantime I would be calling daily to medical and speaking with the nurse to let them know what you are doing on the outside. Like you said, this isn't a common cold, osteomyelitis is extremely serious and can travel to other areas.

Hi Michele,
I found this on another forum, by member Andrea. Maybe they can help
Googled "Can the Red Cross help with mistreatment of prisoners?" This is what I got.
