  • Lord, I feel your pain.  My son is autistic and bipolar.  Is there a worse environment than jail for a guy like this?  He expressed a desire to die for weeks, until the jail psychiatrist prescribed him Depakote, and now he's stable.  But the sound environment has been overwhelming, so he was plaved in PC, which has worked great, except the other inmates see everyone in PC as a snitch.  Saying you are there due to autism is apparently not an acceptable explanation.

  • When the judge sentenced my son his attorney asked the judge to show some

Compassion for the mental ill he said your mental illness helped you to do what

You did befor he sentenced him he smiled at my sons f said 3 to 15 deal with

your mental illness and your Three to fifteen no compassion or lollipops in this

Court room , I'm not your mother .
  • My son has Aspergers and bipolar along with adhd and odd.  He is suicidal and they say it's a situational issue not a med issue.  But there still going to move him from county to prison.

  • Thank you for the post. This whole thing has been so rough.

  • Our legal system does not care about mental issues when incarcerating our children.  I too have a son with mental issues (Asperger's Syndrome).  I filed a petition to have his sentence reduced to the Pardon Attorney in Washington DC.  I feel sure he will ignore the fact that all of Bryan's psychiatrists affirm that he will be worse after prison than before.   They all stated very clearly that he should never be imprisoned and he ended up getting a 6 year sentence for a "crime" he didn't even know was one!

  • I can identify with all this you see my children our all bipolar including my
Husband , I am not bipolar , but two of my son had been INCARSERSTED
My youngest is being TRANSFERED to Jackson for thirty day quarintine ,
Then I do not no where he will go , I was hoping it would be rehab but
There rehab is not the greatest , booth camp maybe seeing this is his
First time in prison , distraught yes, big time , the judge was harsh on
Him , telling him he was a treat to society , the people in the court room ,
And to his own self , that is how the mentally ill our treated like caged
Animals , at least animals are in their den , this is just so wrong to me ,
Not in a state of denial it is truth .
  • Thank you for the welcome...trying to manuever around the site.

  • My son is mentally ill in jail now 3 months. He is in an isolation cell because he is obviously mentally ill. No other reason. No other place in the jail for him. He is only out of the cell every other day for a shower and 2 hours a week in the recreation yard. He has been scheduled to go to the psychiatric hospital for over a month, but there is a long waiting list. So there's nothing but keep him in the jail cell. He doesn't come visit on visiting day. He doesn't call or write. He doesn't spend the money I put on his account. I can't find out how he's doing. I am a wreck.
