Isolation

Do any of you feel isolated? I don't feel like I can talk to anyone about my son. The people who know don't seem to want to hear anything about him, but most don't know because i feel like they will judge me. Are there any support groups that are appropriate for parents of incarcerated children? This is the closest thing I've found, but don't quite understand the website navigation or the best way to engage with others.

  • Sorry I don't speak spanish. Thanks to all of you for the encouragement.
  • MISS is a great resource and as posted keep checking in.. main page showing the updates and the forum as well.  We are a secret society as such.. we share the shame but it isnt ours.. if your here its because as a Mom you have done your best and its breaking you.  Just like a death its a grieving process for life as we wanted it and life as we even knew it.  Our church has a group on Friday that encompass any and all sorrows.. they call it recovery but its much more.. so look on a few local sites and see the details.. ours says this ~Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a Christ-centered, biblically based program for individuals and their family members who are dealing with addictions, compulsions, past hurts, and potentially destructive behaviors; what we call life's hurts, habits and hang-ups.... Yet its simply called RECOVERY.   Hugs!

  • Thank you all for being so candid. I don't even know anyone besides all of you who have been through this. It helps to know you know and care.
  • I know exactly how u feel..same here..
  • I'm in the dfw area, but my son is incarcerated in ok.
  • Oh Libby, I'm so sorry.  40 years.  Is there no compassion left in these judges?  The only ones who truly understand the pain of incarceration are the moms here.  So glad you've reached out to us.  Prayers for you and your son.  I know nothing about appeals, but is there any way you can appeal his sentence?

  • Thanks... yes we have a church, just a large congregation mega type church. They have resources I just need to call and figure it out. Thanks for the reply...
  • Libby,
Do you attend a church? If not.. then find the closest one and go there and ask to speak to the pastor. Not only will he listen to you, but he will know of help/support groups in your area. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
  • BTW.. my son suffers from depression and is a chronic meth user. He was sentenced to 40 yrs for possession of 4 grams of meth with intent to distribute. In Oklahoma...
