My son will probably be going to prison soon, unless a miracle happens. He wants to know how he can become a pen pal was an inmate? Can anyone give me advice?

  • Gaylynn I have done this too.
  • I'm one of those that breaks the rule. Really, I shouldn't be even writing to other inmates and I do. I'm sorry they need comfort. Who am I to point the finger as we r all gods children. So, my son has made some good people and they have been transferred maybe to another prison or got out. They will write me and I re write the letter and send to my son. There's no codes or illegal stuff going on. No harm done.
  • Thank you for your feedback, Mary and Charlotte!

  • I suggest a former inmate, who is experiencing a new life, with renewed hope correspond with your son. Someone who has walked in your son's shoes, or close to it - but not in them right now.. Try contacting nearby ministries. He needs positives and mentoring. Also, check the rules if pen - pals are permitted with other inmates. It was forbidden in NC, and special a privilege needed to be granted.
