hi moms. my son has an 18 year sentence. he is in florida. he has recently made a "phone pal". she lives in Bermuda. while i am glad that he has a friend i am worried about them falling in love in an impossible situation. she says she wants to wait for him. i dont want him to get his hopes up and i dont want her to put her life on hold. any advice? this is new territory for me.

  • If it were my child, I think I'd be grateful that they found a small joy, something to smile about and look forward to...  a lot can happen in 18 yrs, people may come and go, but right now, he has a small joy :) and that is a blessing.. BUT, at the same time, I'd probably mention that it may be temporary and to protect his heart

  • One day at a time!
  • Thanks Moms. At times this just seems so surreal. I am so grateful for all of you and for your support. Makes the days a little better.

  • Not much you can do. My son has a girlfriend and she how's with me to see him
She said she is going to wait for him..he is in his first year of a minimum of 16. She is only 25. He is 31. She is really sweet. We shall see. She wants to get married.
  • I know it's not funny, but my son has been in for going on 20'yrs and he got married in prison! We thought we were going to die! My outlook was why would anyone want to marry this man when he's a lifer! He said he knew her for awhile short while lol and she wanted to marry him! Dear God in heaven! We did not go to the wedding per his request! They have been married for 8 yrs now. She has two children that know nothing about them being married! I like her ok, but we have to step back and let him do what he thinks is best! Personally I think both of them are crazy! Good luck
