I am new to a site like this and especially new to this ache that I feel for my baby boy I'm new and trying to figure out about how to do the canteen phone calls even where my son is and going to be what are the people like is he safe well just plain ok I know my son has to go through this and needs help but he is so far away for so long. I would love to have mom's to talk to to hear your stories Thanks
Oh my dear I remember in the beginning how terrifying everything is.. One day at a time, sometimes an hour or a minute at a time. If you have anyone that understands or gives you support..lean on them. Go to the D.O.C. site for your state to see how visiting and phone calls and all that works. My son always says don't pay attention to TV shows and that isn't really true for most places
Welcome...very scary at the beginning. You need to talk to those in your state. Each state is different. Education is so important. Knowledge is power. I am in Michigan
Y son is on his cell 22 hours a day. He is four hours away. We are here for you! Help you anyway we can. Hugs!
Hello Besty I search the Internet for a support group and came across this site. I'm grateful today was rough for me I have my day. Today was a visit day for me but the weather was to bad for me to travel. I was sad I did not see him. I thank God he called me today it made my heart smile. I agree with Mary get to know everything about the facility your son is in. I called the detention center everyday asking questions. They have a website but it hasn't been updated in a year. No good it does me! One advantage I had I was former Army reserves and a lot of the people I served with are correctional officers. They gave me insight on something's. I think the hardest part is knowing he's in a cell(a cage) and than seeing him in hand cuffs.
As far as calls I pay this company so when he calls it does not charge my phone bill. Also call the facility to get his ID number and mailing address. Start writing letter right away. I wrote a letter everyday. When he called he had received 5 letters. If you're getting an attorney start now. Everything is a waiting money game. Sad to say but it is
